I.A. Suzie — Virtual Care Platform, Interactive Documentary & Durational Performance

What does it mean to become the algorithm? For one week, we didn’t theorize about AI caregiving — we built it and lived inside it. I.A. Suzie is a virtual care platform that coordinates multiple remote caregivers to support people as they age in place, distributing presence, attention, and responsibility across a human network mediated by technology.

The film documents the platform’s first real-world playtest: my collaborator Lauren Lee McCarthy and I deployed a custom smart home infrastructure inside 80-year-old Mary Ann’s home in North Carolina, watching over her 24 hours a day, speaking to her, controlling her environment, and capturing everything through 360 cameras with panoptic views across her home. She named the system I.A. Suzie.
